“Joe Belock”

Lyrics

I just wanna ride my machine
Without being hassled by the man
I just wanna get loaded
While I still can

She said you shouldn’t try to be
Something you’re not
But you know me
I like Joe Belock a lot

What’s the matter with your mind?
You got opinions, you should keep ‘em
To yourself sometimes
Here’s a quarter, go play some Suicide
“Jukebox Baby”

We need a good steady beat
Something easy, easy to dance to
Play it loud for the kids in the cheap seats
Make them clap their hands

I just wanna ride my machine
Without being hassled by the man
I just wanna get loaded
While I still can

She said you shouldn’t try to be
Something you’re not
But you know me
I like Joe Belock a lot

I wrote this song for the master broadcaster himself, Joe Belock. Host of WFMU’s Three Chord Monte show. The song is based on his show intro, and also quotes from WFMU DJ John Allen’s show description (which contains the phrase “I like Joe Belock a lot”).

WFMU’s Joe McGasko did some specials where he played only songs that were the full name of a real person. I stayed up all night to write and record this song about “Joe Belock,” which debuted on one of Joe McGasko’s shows.
